Social commitment

Social commitment Aikido

Aikido School Ando clearly conveys their social message. In 2006, Aikido School Ando was asked by the KNKF, on behalf of the Ministry of VWS, to deploy their expertise at primary schools. It was Ms J. Bussemakers' explicit wish to work with primary schools so that the added value of sport would benefit child development. It was about a four-year project.

(Re)discovering self-confidence together.

In today's society, we are seeing a hardening of the social climate. This hardening also affects the youngest participants.

One sees an increase in fierceness among adolescents due to hurt self-confidence and a sense of insecurity. Students are invited to make choices every day, inside and outside school.

Our programme aims to help children see possibilities and experience space where it is not obvious. We use the practical instructions offered by Aikido traditions as inspiration.

We know there can be no instant menu. Making change is a process, be patient and frequent with it. However, it has been proven that the smallest change now can have big consequences in the long run.

Together with schools, we initiate this process in order to bring hardening back to an acceptable level so that students can (re)discover self-confidence.

The strength of this programme is that together we can make a difference. Would you like to know more about the comprehensive school programme; ‘Together we make a difference’? Then feel free to contact us to set up an appointment with you.

Aikido lessons in primary schools

The Beehive: Aikido in the upper school newsletter
During upper school gym classes, we will be working on the programme ‘We make a difference’! in the coming weeks. The programme is all about aikido. Aikido is a self-defence sport, focusing on learning not to fight and learning to control yourself. The programme consists of a reading booklet, workbook and assignments. The children will discover the secrets of aikido and write their own name in the Japanese language. During this programme, every week (during gym class on Thursdays), trainers from Aikido School Ando will teach a lesson as featured in the reading booklet. You may hear more about it from your child.

Tomorrow, groups 6, 7 and 8 will start a project around the sport Aikido. This ancient Japanese martial art makes great demands on self-control and sporting behaviour. This sport is used as a means of social and emotional development for pupils.
support. Besides lessons in Aikido, there is a written processing of all activities. This project which is carried out by two former students and their parents is financially supported by the ministry. We wish Anne and Edo lots of fun and success here back at their old school with this great project!
