Japanese Kanji

YOUR NAME IN JAPANESE

Aikido is Japanese. And has a beautiful and rich culture. For instance, they have different scripts including katakana. These Kanji as they call them, you frequently come across in Aikido. Do you want to know how to write your name? Then read on or generate your name in Japanese with us!

Katakana is used to describe words of non-Japanese origin display. These can be loan words such as coffee or beer. The way katakana is used is by sound, or sound imitation. So this is phonetic. For example, you write baker but pronounce it as bah-ker (you can also find this in a dictionary). In this way, everything can be written in Japanese.

Learning this Japanese Kanji is a fun activity, because it does seem sneaky after all a kind of secret writing!? This writing also helps you on the mat. Thus, you often see Aikidokas who have been training for a longer time having his or her name embroidered on the suit's hakama or sleeve. This is not only handy for finding your own suit, at a training stage when it is lying out to dry, but also for a sensei. This way, he can call you by name more easily. If you read on a bit more, it will soon be possible!
